4 Amazing Science Fair Studies On Animal Behavior

Posted By arafatrust on April 28, 2011

In the event you attemp to make science fair projects that focus on behavior of animals, include the behaviors of several insects, the behaviors of domesticated animals, the defense elements of animals, or the choices of animals.

Majority of pupils may dread the nature of working on a science project, but you could actually have some fun if you try to pursue a topic you are interested in. If you like animals, why not generate a science research about the beheaviors of animals? There are many science fair report recommendations which center on the behaviors of animals, and here are some of them you can try:

Attidues of various insects

You can look for numerous insect behaviors which you could monitor for your own science project. For ants, consider determining how they are affected by temperature and also what type of food shapes they prefer. You can also monitor in what way ants respond to threats. You can try studying the sense of movement of cockroaches. For mosquitoes, consider what types of insect repellants are most appropraite against them or research what attracts them to human beings and animals. Tak a look if a spider’s ability to spin webs may be affected by alcohol and caffeine. Do an experiment on the the way monarch butterflies migrate or try to find out the several stimuli which can cause crickets to chirp.

Behaviors of domesticated animals

You don’t need to go outside of your house to search for an animal subject for your science project in case you posses any type of pets at home. Try to consider research projects that include them in order to make it more comfortable for you. In case you have a kitten, you may experiment with what types of audio they’re most reactive to. For dogs, investigate in what way they can remember things. You may also make comparison on the behaviors of various breeds of dogs to see which behaviors are likely to be genetic. If you have both cats and dogs at home, you may try to make comparison on the differences between them like which can see better in the dark area or which are more responsive to sounds. You could also observe if different periods of the day has the effect on the ability of a mouse to run through a maze.

Animals’ defense mechanism

The methods used by animals to protect themselves from threats or predators may be also an interesting topic. You can try conducting your examination at the spot near your home that have wild bird populations. Try setting up a bird feeder in the venue and see whether a species of bird will approach the feeder even if there are other birds present. You might try to set up a bird bath close to the feeder and observe if there’s change in the number of birds that gather in the area. You could also determine what the effects of artificial light are within the activity level of goldfish.

Food choices of animals

You can conduct an analysis on what foods a particular kind of animal chooses. You might experiment on cardinals if you observe any close to your location. Place several bird feeds and make weekly observations to determine which kind of feed attract cardinals the most. In case you have a kitten in your house, you may also try to distinguish what kinds of food your pet prefers.

In case you decide on a science project which needs more searching than making experiment, you may use local sources such as the zoo or you can interview a veterinarian.
